A GIS (Geographic Information System) can be translated into the Geographic Information System is a software maps, which allows for the management of data geo-referenced. Qthese data have i.e. a precise position in space and to every element that constitutes them are usually related information of various kinds. In order to locate spatially the data using various reference systems they have different characteristics on the basis of all’use that if it needs to do.
These software work primarily with data type raster, similar images of photographs consisting of pixels, each of which is associated with a value (for instance, imagine an image in which each pixel is assigned a value of share); l’the other main type consists of data vector, that is, geometrical elements basic defined by one or more points (points, lines or polygons), each of which are associated with information in a sort of geographical database.
Within a GIS environment, multiple raster and vector datasets can be managed simultaneously. Each dataset is organized into a layer representing geographic features, spatial phenomena, or other types of information. The ability to overlay different layers is one of the fundamental principles of GIS, allowing users to visualize and analyze multiple sources of geographic information together.
These tools are used in a variety of industries, and are at the base of the the creation of cartography and dell’analysis various phenomena in space. A webGIS is the transposition on the web one of these tools, and is a powerful medium for the dissemination of content.

We use this tool to share the results of our research activities and to support a better understanding of the local territory. For this reason, the information displayed on the WebGIS will evolve over time and may be updated, expanded, or revised as new data become available.

The WebGIS is currently under development. Although it presently contains a limited amount of information, new content will be added over time. For example, points of interest will gradually include links to web pages providing additional historical, environmental, and cultural information. You can already explore this functionality by selecting San Paolo in Alpe.
For advanced users, the coordinate reference system used is ETRS89 / UTM Zone 32N, a metric cartographic projection.
Some of the available layers are provided by the Emilia-Romagna Region and are marked with an asterisk (*).

     The data are:
Tour de Bosc's WebGIS
