Welcome to
SAN PAOLO IN ALPE
The bivouac in ‘San Paolo in Alpe’, recently restored from an old farmhouse, is located in the mountainous part of the Appennino tosco-romagnolo, more precisely in the province of Forlì-Cesena, in the municipality of Santa Sofia. The building is divided into two sections: one is always open and available as a temporary shelter, while the other is used as a managed bivouac that can be accessed upon reservation.
The building is situated on a plateau at an altitude of 1,030 meters and lies entirely within the Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona, and Campigna National Park. The surrounding landscape features open pastures immersed in a forest context of high environmental value. This pristine nature extends all the way to the Apennine ridge, encompassing the the Integral Nature Reserve of Sasso Fratinoa UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017.
The Managed Bivouac
In total, there are 8 beds including 4 wooden and 4 camp beds. It is advisable to bring sleeping bags and sleeping mats (the wooden beds are without mattresses). For larger groups, we can find an agreement at the time of booking.
We take care of restocking the bivouac with firewood. We kindly ask you not to collect wood from the surrounding area and, absolutely under no circumstances, to light fires outside the building. Please use the firewood with care, as it is a precious resource.
There are no water sources near the bivouac. We highly recommend bringing an adequate supply of water with you.
There is no lighting inside the bivouac. For the night, please make sure to bring candles, lanterns, or any other portable light source you prefer.
As in any other bivouac, waste disposal is the responsibility of those who produce it. Please take all your rubbish back with you.
There are no toilet facilities, so we’ll have to ask you to 'hold it.' Jokes aside, please respect the building, its surroundings, and the incredible area you are in. We kindly ask you to minimize your impact and leave no trace.
And you can access the managed bivouac through booking upon payment of a fee. The interior layout is divided into three rooms. The entrance is on the ground floor, leading into a hallway equipped with available firewood, a bench, and a coat rack to store your belongings. From this room, a wooden staircase leads to the upper floor. The first floor features two rooms: the first serves as the bedroom, while adjacent to it lies the heart of the bivouac—a spacious room with a fireplace, a table, benches, and a storage chest for the small wood used to light the fire.
Please note that the bivouac and its surrounding area have no utility services, water sources, or toilet facilities.
The property cannot be booked for more than one night, so that everyone can use it.
For more details, refer to the regulation.

The Unmanaged Bivouac
The unmanaged section of the property is always available to anyone needing a rest stop on the plateau or temporary shelter. This part of the bivouac consists of a single room equipped with a table, benches, and a fireplace.
In addition to the lack of services mentioned for the managed bivouac, please note that 'Tour de Bosc' does cannot ensure firewood supply for this structure.
We would like to remind you that cutting wood in the forest and lighting fires outside the building are strictly prohibited.
For more details, refer to the regulation.
